Member Institutions:19 Institutions from Japan and Sweden (as of July 2020)(Japan) Hiroshima University, Hokkaido University, Kyushu University, Nagoya University, Sophia University, Tohoku University, The University of Tokyo, Waseda University, Okinawa Institute of Science and Technology Graduate University(OIST) (Sweden) University of Gothenburg, Linkoping University, Lund University, Uppsala University, Umea University, Linnaeus University, Karlstad University, Örebro University, Jönköping University, Lulea University of Technology and Stockholm School of Economics About: MIRAI – &＃8220;Connecting Swedish and Japanese universities through research, education and innovation&＃8221; is a three-year project addressing scientific issues within Ageing, Materials Science and Sustainability relevant to both countries. From 2020, the MIRAI collaboration has entered a new phase, called MIRAI 2.0. Website:https://www.mirai.nu/ The MIRAI project aims to contribute to long-term collaborations and research excellence between Sweden and Japan through – activities in research, education and innovation – preparing the next generation of researchers Activities -Research & Innovation Week The main activity of the MIRAI 2.0 project is a research & innovation week held two times during the initial three-year phase. The focus of these research & innovation weeks will be on match-making between early career researchers, on integrating innovation and entrepreneurship into the scientific subjects as well as incorporating the possible use of existing large-scale research facilities. Prior to/after the workshop days, satellite events and workshops for early career researchers shall be carried out. -Seed funding for collaborations in research, education & innovation To support promising collaborative initiatives as a result of the workshops above, a call for seed funding will be launched directly after a research & innovation week. Researchers who have participated in the research & innovation week will be able to jointly (min. one researcher from SE and one researcher from JP) suggest a project in their field that has the potential to lead to further collaborations. Such collaborations may include externally funded research, jointly authored papers, larger-scale collaborations, joint programs, short courses for Ph.D. and Post-Docs, etc. -Short courses for PhD and Post-Docs (1-2 weeks)/research school To train future research leaders in Sweden and Japan who can further advance established and new collaborations, short courses (1-2 weeks) for Ph.D. and Post-Docs within the MIRAI partnership topics will be organized. An innovation and entrepreneurship training module as part of the course, as well as the making use of digital communication technology, is encouraged. The courses could take place as individual courses or could be held in the form of a research school. -Teacher and staff mobility Each MIRAI partner university is actively promoting teaching mobility amongst their own staff. To financially support the teacher exchange the Swedish MIRAI universities will regularly submit applications within the Erasmus+ International Credit Mobility call for funding. -Student exchange Each MIRAI partner university is actively promoting student exchange amongst their own students (min three months). Teachers that have been on teacher mobility will play an important role in motivating their students to participate in student exchange. Erasmus+ International Credit mobility could be a possible source for student scholarships.
