John graduated from the University of California, Davis with a BA in Art History and a BS in International Agricultural Development. He subsequently assumed a role in business strategy at a leading Japanese multinational manufacturer before entering the Graduate School of Fine Arts at Tokyo University of the Arts. During and following postgraduate studies, John has focused his research on the university campus in Toride City, Ibaraki Prefecture and the surrounding community of agrarian Omonma, aiming to elucidate the interplay between the university, arts and the land it is built on through visual creativity, exhibitions and archival work. Recently he has also participated in Roppongi Art Night 2023 presenting his research on the history of the local area, including the International House of Japan, as a tour. John has also worked as a translator and interpreter for various artists, art or agriculture related lectures and events worldwide.
