More Information Department of Japanese Language and CultureDepartment of English Language and CultureDepartment of PsychologyDepartment of History and GeographyDepartment of Media Information SocietyDepartment of Communications About the College of Humanities Humanities is an academic field that is responsible for looking at and thinking about the most essential parts of humans, such as what humans are, what they live for, what happiness is, and why there is sadness and suffering. It plays an important role in critically examining the various phenomena that arise from human activities and raising fundamental questions about humanity. Up until now, humankind has placed too much emphasis on economy and efficiency, sacrificing what we truly value: humanity. It is said that the future will be one in which we must place importance on humanity, based on reflection on the past. The rapidly developing science and information technology has produced a variety of “useful things,” but it is well known that these do not necessarily contribute to human happiness. It is precisely in these times that the humanities, which create value for mankind, have become more important than ever before. Through study in Chubu University’s College of Humanities, students prepare to take on such an important role and learn deeply about human activities related to language, culture, media, information, society, psychology, history, etc., from a global perspective. The goal of undergraduate education is to foster students’ initiative and creativity through the process of learning, and to send them out into the world as dignified individuals equipped with cutting-edge knowledge and practical skills. In all departments, research is carried out through small group study and fieldwork, with lively discussions between students and faculty. It is a place of learning with a human touch, allowing students to look at and contemplate the true essence of humanity.
